Crown Lifting means:
- clearing the stem of a tree of any lateral branches from ground level up to a certain height, and is mostly carried out to either encourage more daylight into an otherwise too heavily overshaded garden, or to gain room for further landscaping ideas underneath its canopy.
Sometimes, garden owners are surprised of how well some crown lifting of existing trees can turn out, rather than taking out an entire tree and probably losing the original character of the site.
